Honoring Barry Lynn’s 25 Years of Leadership of Americans United
Our Houston Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State is lucky to host AU Executive Director Barry W. Lynn on October 16, 2017 as he prepares to retire. We’ll honor him for his 25 years of extraordinary leadership of AU and celebrate AU’s 70th anniversary
Lynn has overseen key legal and legislative victories for Americans United, including launching a national project to defend the Johnson Amendment; defending the rights of the LGBTQ community; working to block a dangerous constitutional amendment in Congress that would have removed church-state separation from the First Amendment; defeating Alabama’s “Ten Commandments” judge (and current candidate for U.S. Senate) Roy Moore in court; putting a stop to the teaching of “intelligent design” creationism in Dover, Pa. public schools; and exposing the machinations of Religious Right groups.
Lynn is an ordained minister, lawyer, author and media commentator. Those who have seen him on his past visits to Houston have enjoyed his informative, insightful, entertaining and inspiring presentations.
Lynn will reflect on his retirement and AU’s 70th anniversary, and Bill Mefford, AU’s faith organizer, will join Lynn to discuss the future of AU and religious freedom in America. Lynn, Mefford and our chapter board members will be available afterwards to answer questions and meet with supporters.
We hope you will join us at this special opportunity to recognize Barry Lynn, celebrate AU’s founding and – Be a Part of AU’s Future.
Please see our web site’s “upcoming events” page for event details.
