Judge rules cheerleaders’ Christian banners are OK for now-Restraining order blocks a Kountze school ban

Cheerleaders at Kountze High School were looking for alternatives to traditional messages, like “Crush the Cats” or “Kill the Eagles,” on the paper banners their football team runs through to take the field. Sophomore Macy Matthews said she and her colleagues wanted to use the opportunity to “give glory to God.”

And so, during the past three Kountze High football games, the players in the 2,100-resident town stormed the field through large banners referencing Bible passages, such as Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
